As Thai citizens, we should take great care to study and understand the laws of our country while adhering to them. The Thai Attorney General Museum has meticulously gathered knowledge about the law and its historical development, providing us with an opportunity to explore and learn. Here, the evolution of the Thai Attorney Office is showcased, tracing back to the Ayutthaya period. The museum also displays ancient legal texts and various artifacts from prosecutors collected from different provincial attorney offices. Among the notable historical cases we can study are the October 6, 1976 case and the Cherry Ann case. The museum houses valuable items from attorney offices across the nation, dating back to ancient times, and is divided into three main sections. The first section is the museum itself, featuring a statue of King Rama I, the father of the Thai legal system. There’s a corner recreating the workspace of ancient attorneys alongside case register books and an array of vintage office equipment. The display includes judicial robes from three different eras, starting from the first version from 1897 to the third version from 1936, which are still in use today. This section also contains the Hall of Former Attorneys and an ancient room. The second section is dedicated to ancient legal texts. It boasts a collection of over 25,000 rare law books, each organized into specific cabinets, featuring unique legal books such as the legal handbook. The third section is dedicated to the Attorney Archives, which houses more than 25,000 documents from the time the Attorney Department was under the Ministry of Justice until it transitioned to the Ministry of Interior. This includes documents related to the slave trade contract from 1883, ancient legal statutes, and more. Additionally, significant ancient case files like the Mother Jamoi case and the October 6 case are available for study. Location: 11th floor of the Office of the Attorney General, Ratchadapisek Road. Admission is free from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For more information, please call 0 2541 2951.
