Although Nong Bua Lam Phu Province is landlocked and does not border any ocean, it holds incredible historical significance revealed through remarkable discoveries. This region, dating back over a hundred million years before the prehistoric era, was once an ocean, evidenced by the fossilized shells and other remnants uncovered here. These discoveries constitute a valuable historical treasure for the country. Fortunately, many of these findings are now showcased in the Ancient Fossil Shell Museum, located in Huai Duea village, Non Than sub-district. The museum boasts a collection of 150-million-year-old fossilized shells and displays fossils approximately 140-150 million years old, derived from a steep 50-meter cliff where a myriad of well-preserved fossils were found. Additionally, remnants of ancient crocodile bones, mica rock fragments, and various minerals have also been discovered in the area. Visitors can also see the exhibition building dedicated to dinosaur bones that were unearthed from layers of rock above those containing fossilized shells. Notably, these include the upper front leg bones, lower back leg bones, scapulae, toe bones, and ribs, among others. For those interested in exploring the Ancient Fossil Shell Museum, you can obtain further information by contacting the museum at Huai Duea village, Non Than sub-district, Mueang District, Nong Bua Lam Phu Province, postal code 39000.
