A new landmark of great significance in Surat Thani is a bronze sculpture of a mother and baby Bryde's whale, prominently displayed in a spacious area in front of the market. In the same vicinity, there is a sign that recounts the history behind this location. It is said that in the past, fishermen caught a large whale and brought it ashore at this bend in the river, causing quite a stir among the locals. As a result, this spot came to be known as "Whale Landing."
