Rewind to 1979, when Chinese immigrants from Wat Yuann, Saphan Khao, Damrongrak Road, Saphan Dam, Wat Saket, and Banglamphu relocated to new homes in Soi Prachanarumit and Soi Saiwatsuwan. They brought with them their traditional craft of "wood carving," characterized by meticulous artistry and a continuous transmission of skills. This legacy has made Wood Street (Soi Prachanarumit) widely recognized among wood enthusiasts, transforming it into a central hub for all things wood-related. Here, you can find everything from lumber used in home construction to beautifully crafted wooden products, such as furniture, home decor items like wooden animal figurines, handicrafts, and both domestically produced and imported carved wood products. With over 200 shops lining the street, visitors can browse and purchase to their heart's content. One striking feature of this place is the twin wooden arches at both the entrance and exit of the alley, designed by the esteemed artist Suakorn Chaisema, a talented independent artist known for his work in painting and sculpture. Recently, Wood Street has expanded into Soi Saiwatsuwan, also known as Soi Bangkok Nonthaburi 13, which has garnered a warm reception from those interested. Location: Soi Prachanarumit, Pracharat Sai 1 Road, Bang Sue District, Bangkok. Public bus routes serving the area include numbers 5, 16, 30, 32, 33, 49, 50, 51, 64, 65, 90, 97, 117, and various minivan services.
