Non Hom Subdistrict is one of the subdistricts in Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon Province, established in 1882. It was founded by a local leader named Mr. Hom, who guided the villagers to settle in this area. The residents of Non Hom belong to the Phu Thai ethnic group, who have remarkably preserved their culture and way of life. Particularly in “Ban Non Hom,” which serves as a hub for various community events and traditions. The history of the Phu Thai village in Non Hom dates back to 1857 when this ethnic group migrated from Phuwanakadeung in Laos. They crossed the Mekong River and journeyed along the Phu Phan mountain range, heading west toward the fertile lowland that is now known as Nong Han Luang in Sakon Nakhon. They eventually settled in suitable areas, some near water sources while others preferred the hillside at the foot of Phu Phan Mountain, which is part of what now constitutes the Non Hom subdistrict. The ancestors of the Phu Thai people in Non Hom established small villages scattered across fields and near wetlands. If you are interested in Thai traditions, the village of Non Hom is a destination you shouldn't miss. Here, you can closely observe the lifestyle of the Phu Thai people, whether by joining them for a communal dinner known as "Pa Laeng," watching traditional dance performances by the local girls, or experiencing ancient martial arts demonstrations. If you wish to participate in the Pa Laeng or dance with the Phu Thai community, you can make prior arrangements by contacting the "Non Hom Community Marketing Demonstration Center" at 5 Moo 2, Non Hom Subdistrict, Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon 47000. To reach Ban Non Hom, take Highway 223 (Sakon Nakhon - Na Kha) from Sakon Nakhon town for about 13 kilometers until you find a right turn. Continue for an additional 2 kilometers.
