Ban Dong Bang Herb Group

Dong Khee Lek Subdistrict, Mueang Prachinburi District.

Dong Bang Village, 80 years ago, was originally a large forest. At that time, most of the residents focused on farming rice. Over time, many transitioned to becoming gardeners of ornamental flowers and plants. Alongside their agricultural pursuits, the knowledge of herbal medicine from the elder, Mr. Kaew Mukda, was passed down to his sons, Mr. Daeng Mukda and Mr. Surin Khunsuk, who are also sons-in-law. Today, this knowledge has reached the third generation through Mr. Samai Khunsuk, who leads the Dong Bang herbal group, making this community skilled in various fields. Around 1974, the first farmer group was established, named “Dong Ki Lek Farmer Group.” Subsequently, a new group was formed, focusing more on the cultivation of ornamental flowers, which led to a variety of plant species being produced. With a market that supports distribution across the country, the main sales location became the Chatuchak Weekend Market. The success in agriculture has fostered a sense of unity, allowing families to generate considerable income. With the community's potential, coupled with knowledge of herbs and traditional medicine, and support from Chao Phraya Abhai Bhesra Hospital—an institution pioneering in alternative medicine and the use of herbs for treating various ailments—a herbal group was established in 2000. This group, called the “Dong Bang Herbal Group,” aims to develop sustainable agriculture using organic methods. Once established, both government and private sectors stepped in to enhance the community's management systems. The hospital provided pharmacists to advise on organic herb production processes, focusing on cultivation, income distribution, and accounting systems, all targeting high-quality yields as a source of organic herbal raw materials to international standards. As the community grew stronger, Dong Bang Village was selected as a "Model OTOP Village," subsequently becoming an "OTOP Tourism Village" in Prachinburi Province. The objectives were to enhance Dong Bang's potential as a comprehensive agritourism destination centered on herbal and organic agriculture while promoting local wisdom regarding herbs and traditional Thai medicine, achieving international standards. **Key Features:** - Explore a variety of herbs - Participate in educational sessions about herbs - Observe the production processes of community products - Purchase community-made products - Stroll through the herb garden - Engage in activities such as making herbal compresses and herbal drinks - Choose and take home products - Enjoy meals prepared from herbal ingredients.
