In the area around Lam Pao Reservoir, a multitude of bird species inhabit the region, making it a hotspot for birdwatching. Unfortunately, hunting and capturing these creatures were rampant. In 1982, Mr. Tawee Nuthong, a wildlife conservation expert and then-head of Lam Pao Wildlife Sanctuary, conducted a survey and presented his findings to the Wildlife Conservation Office, advocating the establishment of Lam Pao as a hunting prohibition area. Finally, in 1988, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives officially declared the entire area of Lam Pao Reservoir as a wildlife sanctuary. This designation was published in the Royal Gazette, Volume 105, Issue 112, on July 16, 1988, and the regulations have been enforced officially since April 1990.
