Koh Kam

Moung Kluang, Kaper

The Koh Kam Islands consist of five islands: Koh Kam Tok, Koh Japan, Koh Khang Khao, Koh Kam Nui, and Koh Kam Yai. All of these islands are part of the Laem Son National Park, with the park headquarters located at Bang Ben Beach, Moo 4, Ban Bang Ben, in the Mueang Kluang sub-district. This national park features both a beautiful coastline on the mainland and a group of islands in the Andaman Sea. - **Koh Kam Tok** is located in the southwestern part of the park. It is home to the park ranger station and boasts what is considered the most beautiful beach on the island, known as Ao Khao Kwai. This bay is almost semi-circular, with a beach that stretches approximately 300 meters, featuring fine white sand and crystal-clear water suitable for swimming. The island is lush with large trees and sea pines, providing shaded areas with benches for visitors to relax. There are also restroom facilities available. Additionally, there is a viewpoint accessible via a 100-meter hiking trail, offering a stunning panorama of the uniquely beautiful curving bay and the surrounding atmosphere. - **Koh Japan**, or Koh Kam Klang, is characterized by small hills, and its front features a beautiful sandy beach with soft, fine white sand. The water here is clear and clean, allowing glimpses of the sandy bottom. Surrounding the island, there are excellent spots for snorkeling among the vibrant coral reefs. - **Koh Khang Khao** lies to the north of the Koh Kam Islands, a 7-kilometer boat ride from Bang Ben Beach taking about 40 minutes. This island features fine white sand beaches with water displaying a gradient from light blue to deep blue, depending on the depth. It’s another excellent location for snorkeling in shallow waters. The island is dotted with sea mangrove and other shady trees, creating perfect rest spots. To the north, there’s a beautiful stony beach lined with smooth, round stones. Travel to the Koh Kam Islands can be arranged through local boat services that offer day trips departing from the Laem Son National Park pier, about 1 kilometer from the park headquarters. Most tours include visits to three islands: Koh Kam Tok (Ao Khao Kwai), Koh Japan, and Koh Khang Khao. Each boat can accommodate 5-10 people, with rental costs ranging from 2,500 to 3,000 baht. For boat inquiries, you can contact Bang O at 08 9594 1363 or 09 8738 5954. The entrance fees for the national park are 40 baht for Thai adults, 20 baht for Thai children, 200 baht for foreign adults, and 100 baht for foreign children. Within the park headquarters, there are three bungalows available, along with camping spots and tent rentals. For further information, please call 0 7786 1431 or visit www.dnp.go.th.
