Sima Isan, or the Assembly Hall of the Sang Arun Forest Monastery, is located in Ban Leung Puea, Tambon Phra Lap. The term "sima" in the Isan dialect refers to the assembly hall of a monastery. This hall is situated in the heart of the temple complex, surrounded by lush trees, creating a serene atmosphere. The Sima showcases a unique blend of upper Isan and central architectural styles, measuring 15 meters in width, 35 meters in length, and standing 62 meters above the original ground level. It features 52 pillars, 14 windows, and 3 doors, all topped with a traditional fish-scale tiled roof. The hall is complemented by four bell towers and enclosed by a glass wall. Inside the Sima, you will find the principal Buddha statue known as “Phra Buddha Rangsiyophas Sukpipat,” depicted in the Mara Victory posture. This impressive statue measures 69 inches across the lap and stands over 2 meters tall. On the outer wall of the Sima, you can observe another Buddha statue in the contemplative posture. Below this statue is a representation of King Chulalongkorn, or King Rama V. To reach the temple from Khon Kaen city, you can take Highway No. 12 (Srichan Road) towards Kalasin Province. After about 6 kilometers, you will come across a Toyota showroom on your right. Make a U-turn in front of the showroom and head back toward Khon Kaen city, continuing for another kilometer. Turn left onto Yothathikarn Road, and after about 300 meters, you will find the Sang Arun Forest Monastery on your right along the roadside.
