Wat Sattanarat Pariwat Woravihara is a royal monastery of the second class, originally named Wat Khao Sattanarat, as it was once located at the foot of Mount Sattanarat. During the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the government decided to construct a palace on Mount Sattanarat, leading to the reclamation of the temple grounds to remove it from the ecclesiastical land. Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Suriya Wong (Chuang Bunnak) facilitated the transfer and undertook the construction of a new temple in a different location at Wat Pho Ngam, or Wat Klang Ban (the current site). This new site, situated along the banks of the Mae Klong River, was previously abandoned. At the time of the temple’s establishment, several permanent structures were erected, including the ubosot (ordination hall), a sleeping Buddha hall, pavilions, monk's residences, chedis, and an enclosing wall. Once the temple was completed, it was named "Wat Sattanarat Pariwat," which means "the temple that has changed or moved from Khao Sattanarat."
