Wat Sri Don Chai, Lamphun

Lamphun, Ban Thi

Wat Si Don Chai in Lamphun is home to the Phra Buddha Chalerm Siri Raj, a magnificent standing Buddha statue in the graceful posture of a "Leela," measuring an impressive height of 59 cubits. It is the tallest and largest Buddha statue in Northern Thailand. The statue was commissioned on June 17, 1993, and completed in 1995, made possible by the devotion of the local people alongside Mr. Kebakulim, a Chinese citizen from Malaysia. It was built as a royal merit-making offering in celebration of the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's reign. To reach the temple from the city center of Lamphun, you can travel along Highway No. 11 (Chiang Mai-Lamphang). Between kilometers 76 and 77, there is a turnoff leading to the temple, approximately 2 kilometers away.

Province: Lamphun
