Wat Phichai Yatikaram, also known as Wat Phichai Yat, is a royal temple of the secondary class under the Mahayana Buddhist Order. It is located at the foot of Phuttha Bridge, in an area originally called Wongwian Lek within the Somdet Chao Phraya sub-district, Khlong San district, beside the Khong Ban Somdet Chao Phraya canal. Initially abandoned, the temple was restored around 1830-1833 during the reign of King Rama III by Somdet Chao Phraya Boromma Phi Chai Yat (Tat Bun Nak), who at the time held the title of Phra Ya Sri Phiphat Ratchakosa. Due to Somdet Chao Phraya's position as the chief of customs, who had trading ships operating in China, he brought Chinese materials such as tile and stone, along with the hulls of Chinese trading vessels, to contribute to the temple's restoration. The architecture of the temple reflects a blend of Thai and Chinese styles, a favored design during that era. Once the restoration was complete, it was humbly dedicated to King Nangklao (Rama III), who bestowed the name "Wat Phra Ya Yatikaram." Later, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) renamed it "Wat Phichai Yatikaram," though it is commonly referred to as "Wat Phichai Yat" by the general public.
