The Erawan Cave is located on a mountain characterized by hard rocks scattered throughout. When viewed from a distance, it resembles an elephant in a resting position, while the front view gives the appearance of an elephant's forehead. The upper part of the cave features sharp and rugged rocky formations in small clusters. Erawan Cave is a large cavern with a winding staircase consisting of over 600 steps that lead from the base of the mountain to the cave entrance. At the entrance, there is a prominent large statue of Buddha that can be seen from afar. Inside the cave, there is a spacious hall, which is the setting for the legendary folk tale of "The Fragrant Hair Lady". The cave is adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Originally, Erawan Cave was known as "Elephant Cave," a name derived from the surrounding mountain. It was the initiative of Phra Khru Palad Fan Pharesako, who invited devoted individuals to collaborate on its establishment as a temple, which later became known as Wat Tham Chang (Elephant Cave Temple). This temple was built near the steps leading up to the cave, eventually leading to the name Erawan Cave Temple.
