In the past, the villagers referred to it as Wat Khok Yai Hom, which is now an abandoned historical site known as "Nern Phra." According to legend, Yai Hom established her home in this area and was the caretaker of Phra Ya Phan. This temple has been in ruins for over a thousand years. Later, another Wat Khok Yai Hom was built in Moo 2, Don Yai Hom Subdistrict, which is also an ancient site nearing abandonment. There are currently two to three monks residing there; however, there is no documentation regarding the period it was constructed. This area is now home to "Paw Ngern Witthaya" High School, under the Ministry of Education's Department of General Education. Around 1855 (B.E. 2398), Phra Khru Sap, the abbot of Wat Ngiw Rai in Nakhon Chai Si District, assessed the dilapidated state of the temple and realized it could not be restored. The temple’s location was also poorly situated, so he, along with the local villagers, selected a new site for the temple further north, positioned between the abandoned site of Nern Phra and Wat Khok Yai Hom. This land, originally belonging to Mr. Khong and Mr. Chim of the Intanjui family, was donated for the construction of a new temple, covering an area of 8 rai in 1857 (B.E. 2400). Phra Khru Sap then invited Phra Winai Thon Huab Prommasorn, a 25-year-old monk who had been ordained for five years and was studying at Wat Suwannaram in Bangkok Noi District, to become the first abbot of the new temple.
