Suan Pakkad Palace

Sri Ayutthaya Road, Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi

Explore the centuries-old ancient house at Suan Pakkad Palace, which originally served as the residence for Prince Nakorn Sawan Sakpinit and Mom Rajawongse Phanthip Buriphat. The palace gets its name from the area, which used to be a vegetable garden tended by local farmers. Today, Suan Pakkad Palace showcases a variety of ancient art objects, all part of the personal collection of the Buriphat royal family. Within the complex, you will find a group of eight traditional Thai houses that are over a hundred years old. The first house on the ground floor is home to the Museum of Music named after Mom Luang Buriphat, who is revered as the "Father of Thai Music." The second house exhibits personal belongings, while the third features traditional Thai musical instruments. The fourth house showcases antiques such as bronze Buddha statues in the Sukhothai art style and intricately carved ivory. The fifth house displays prehistoric artifacts on the upper floor, and a collection of various shells and stones on the lower floor. The sixth house features celadon bowls and ancient stone axes, among other items. The seventh house serves as a museum for Khon, displaying various Khon masks and puppets, while the eighth house focuses on the culture of Ban Chiang and includes a writing hall built during the reign of King Narai the Great. Additionally, the second floor of the Jumbhat-Panthip Art Hall is dedicated to the Ban Chiang Museum, exhibiting artifacts that are approximately 4,000 years old, such as terracotta vessels, stone bracelets, and glass beads found in northeastern Thailand. Location: 352-354 Si Ayutthaya Road, Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Bangkok, near Phaya Thai intersection. It's easily accessible by the BTS Skytrain, getting off at Phaya Thai Station (Exit 4). The palace is open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM with admission fees priced at 50 baht for Thai nationals, 100 baht for foreigners, and 20 baht for students.
