"Kwai Kang Won Palace" was built by King Prajadhipok (Rama VII), who graciously allocated personal royal funds from the treasury for its construction in October 1926. The palace was intended as a gift for Her Majesty Queen Rambhai Barni. The architect responsible for its design and construction supervision was Mom Chao Itthithep Saranakrit, who was the Director of Silpakorn University at that time, with the palace to be used as a royal residence by the seaside. During the reign of King Rama VII, the palace was named "Suan Kwai Kang Won" and its official seal was established in 1929. Although he named it "Kwai Kang Won Palace," there is no documented royal decree elevating it to the status of a palace; hence, it continues to be referred to as "Kwai Kang Won Palace."
