Phaya Thai Palace, or simply Phaya Thai, is located alongside the Samsen Canal on Ratchawithi Road in the Thung Phaya Thai area of Ratchathewi, Bangkok. His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) commissioned its construction and bestowed the name "Phaya Thai Pavilion" or "Phaya Thai Palace." It was later elevated to the status of a royal palace during the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). The grounds feature a beautiful garden known as the Roman Garden, which is believed to be one of three royal parks associated with Phaya Thai Palace. The garden boasts a geometric layout with pavilions designed in a Roman style, including various round structures topped with domed roofs supported by Corinthian columns. Adjacent are airy, roofless pavilions delineated by similar columns and beams overhead. The garden is adorned with marble Roman-style sculptures, particularly at the staircase leading up to a large pool aligned with the dome, creating a harmonious aesthetic throughout the area.
