Once in Thailand, I experienced the aftermath of a devastating event caused by Tropical Storm Harriet, which struck the country at that time. This significant event took place at Cape Talumpuk, located in the northern part of Pak Phanang District, close to the inner sea known as Nakhon Bay. This area is home to local fishing villages, while the outer side adjacent to the Gulf of Thailand features sandy beaches lined with pine trees along the coast. Cape Talumpuk is well-remembered for the tropical storm that hit on October 25, 1992, bringing water levels as high as 5 meters and wind speeds reaching 90 kilometers per hour, resulting in waves that soared up to 6.8 meters. This calamity claimed the lives of over 1,300 people from the region. Today, Cape Talumpuk has transformed into a tourist destination that not only shares tales of its haunting past but also boasts a vibrant culinary scene. Visitors can enjoy an array of seafood delights accompanied by beautiful seaside views, offering a delicious and satisfying experience. To visit, take Highway 4013 (Nakhon Si Thammarat-Pak Phanang), and look for the junction to Cape Talumpuk, which is about 16 kilometers away.
